During the Roman Imperial period, urn burials were the typical burial method among Germanic tribes. As a rule, cremated grave goods were also deposited in the urn. As a special feature, in this case, the warrior's weaponry, a wooden shield - recognisable by the shield boss -, sword and lance, were buried under the urn. The wooden shaft of the lance, which has not been preserved, originally protruded from the earth and thus made the grave recognisable. The handle of the sword was bent wantonly, rendering the weapon useless in this way.
