These two so-called hair knot fibulae, which are over 3,000 years old, are impressive and precious. The Aumühl fibula comes from a tumulus grave, and was purchased by the museum in 1902. The piece from Lohbrügge was discovered during sand mining in the Boberg dunes. The hair knot fibula owes their name to the fact that they are found in women's graves at the back of the head of the dead; so they were presumably used to pin up the hair.
