Tools out of Flint

To the east of Ahrensburg, melt water from the last glaciers formed a channel in the ground beneath the ice, a so-called tunnel valley. After the Ice Age, herds of reindeer passed through here. They were hunted by groups of people who temporarily set up camp here. Their flint tools are so distinctive that the entire North German culture of the late Paleolithic period 13,000 years ago is called the Ahrensburg culture.
