Everyone knows what a mineral water bottle looks like, but the fact that it did not look like it does today is shown by the bottles on display here. The oldest mineral water bottles come from the town of Niederselters in the District of Limburg-Weilburg, which is famous for its mineral waters.
The naturally carbonized well water from Niederselters has been exported all over the world since the 16th century because of the healing properties ascribed to it. In the beginning, the water was transported in stoneware bottles (as stoneware is a very hard kind of pottery) and later in glass or plastic bottles.
